Show @ Columbus State University

Excited to share that 3 of my paintings were selected for an exhibition in Illges Gallery at Columbus State University. “Home Body” was curated by Issac Sabelhaus and features some of my fellow MFAs at Georgia State University. Image on the flyer is a painting by Felicia Castro.

Life Update: I'm in grad school!

I’m terrible at updating this, clearly. In August 2020, amidst a pandemic, I moved to Atlanta, GA to start my MFA at Georgia State University. It’s a 3 year program in Studio Art with a concentration in Textiles. Coming from a primarily 2 dimensional background, I’m currently focusing on developing 3 dimensional work while I have the resources and time to explore.

I have 2 pieces in an exhibition at GSU’s 650 gallery, on display until November 30th. The show is comprised of all the people in my cohort.

I also have a sound piece included in this year’s ‘Radiophrenia’ broadcast coming out of Glasgow, Scotland. My work will play on November 21, 2020 in the Shorts 21 section between 8-9pm Scotland time, so 3-4pm EST US time. Here’s the link: RADIOPHRENIA 2020

Last piece of exciting news; I received a Welch Graduate Supplemental Funding Award to help with my research for 2020-21. Many thanks to GSU Welch School of Art & Design for your support!

Check out my Instagram @kate.kosek if you’d like to purchase my work and help support a poor college student :)

gorman x kate kosek collaboration

One November evening in 2013, I received an email from an Australian-based designer by the name of Lisa Gorman.   She stumbled upon my work online, and was interested in turning a few of my drawings into textiles for a clothing line.  Her brand gorman collaborates with artists and designers around the world to create special collections and products.

On August 21, 2014 the collaboration launches online and in stores throughout Australia and New Zealand.  Lisa and the gorman team are generously flying me to Melbourne to attend the launch party.  I've never been to Australia, but have been dying to go!

This has been such a surreal experience so far, one that I am eternally grateful for.  Two weeks until I'm on the other side of the world!
